PETRA MELICHAREK

Petra.jpg

Petra started to play the violin at the age of 6, and loved it so intensely that she knew immediately that she wanted to become a violinist.

She studied in the Conservatory in her hometown of Bratislava (Slovakia) and performed during this time in many styles, including classical, crossover, and even real pop on electric violin. She also became interested in Baroque performance practice, which led her to come to Basel and study with Chiara Banchini at the Schola Cantorum.

Petra plays with different orchestras specialized in early music, and has toured and performed extensively throughout Europe.

She can be heard on recordings made by La Cetra Basel, the J.S.Bach Stiftung, and Capriccio Barockorchester, among others. In addition, she performs regularly with the Immortal Quartet.

Petra has taught at ICMS since 2013, and strives to show her students the wonderful world of music, to inspire them to discover passion, and to open their hearts to beauty.

She lives in Gempen (SO) with her family.
