Petra Melicharek was born in 1980 in Bratislava (Slovakia). She started to play violin at the age of six. After studies in conservatory (1994-2005) she continued to study violin in the Academy of Music in Bratislava in the class of Maria Karlikova. She received her diploma in 2005. At this point she began to pursue her great interest in Baroque music and started to play in various ensembles including Musica Aeterna (SK), Solamente Naturali (SK), Haydn Sinfonietta Wien (A), and Musica Florea Prag (CZ).

This practical experience led to her decision to come to Basel and continue her studies. From 2005-2008 Petra attended the Schola Cantorum in the class of Chiara Banchini. She now plays mainly with Capriccio Barockorchester and La Cetra Basel.

Petra Melicharek lives with her family in Gempen and has been a member of the ICMS Basel faculty since 2013.
